Our client, an avid surfer and nature enthusiast, purchased a charming weekend house just blocks from the beach. His vision was clear: create a bright, cheerful, and naturally inspired retreat that reflected his love for the ocean and the outdoors. The original yard and driveway area were in need of repair, a great opportunity to expand the home's outdoor living space. The Woodcliff team designed the interior space and prepared the exterior property space for the new landscape plan, keeping in mind that the client intended to incorporate ample space to entertain, garden, and relax. The client's vision was to unite the main house and ADU (Accessory Dwelling Unit) through an inviting outdoor living area. The result is a wonderful space for hosting large groups of friends and family while maintaining a peaceful and serene atmosphere.

Sustainable Upgrades and Deferred Maintenance

Key upgrades were essential to meeting the homeowner's needs, including the installation of solar panels, an innovative rain harvesting system, and a completely new landscape design. We collaborated with a variety of experts to ensure the project was cohesive and well-planned, addressing site upgrades needed for other proposed improvements. Lastly, we tackled deferred maintenance issues to ensure the property was in top condition.

Overcoming Design Challenges

The main house presented unique design challenges, particularly with an old one-car garage that was not permitted as living space. Our solution was to bring this portion up to code and convert it into a master suite. This addition provided the client with an extra bedroom and direct access to the rear yard without expanding the building's footprint. Selecting Durable and Stylish Finishes

Choosing materials that could withstand the coastal environment was crucial. We selected Luxury Vinyl Flooring that blends beautifully with the natural elements in both the main house and ADU. Quartz countertops and porcelain tile flooring were chosen for their durability and ability to maintain a fresh look in high-traffic areas. Pops of color were added with rich glazed ceramic tile and a navy blue kitchen island, complemented by stainless steel fixtures throughout.
